iPhone Secret Codes That Actually Work in 2026 (and the Ones That Don’t)

By Muhammad Shahid Khan · · 5 min read

Quick answer

The iPhone codes that work are mostly standard GSM codes and carrier codes, dialled in the Phone app: *#06# shows your IMEI, *3001#12345#* opens Field Test mode, *#21# checks call forwarding, *#43# checks call waiting and #31# before a number hides your caller ID on many networks. iPhones have no hidden engineering menus, so Android codes like *#*#4636#*#* do nothing.

Search "iPhone secret codes" and you will find long lists copied from site to site, full of codes that do nothing on an iPhone. Many come from Android, some were retired by carriers years ago, and some never worked at all. Here are the ones that do work, and why the others do not.

I build Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier, a free iPhone app with 317 verified dial codes, and the screenshots in this guide come from it. If you would rather tap than memorise codes, get Secret Codes on the App Store.

Why don't Android codes work on iPhone?

Codes like *#*#4636#*#* (the Android testing menu) or *#0*# (a Samsung hardware test) open menus built into Android. iOS has no hidden engineering menus, so these codes do nothing on an iPhone. The codes that do work on iPhone are either:

  • GSM standard codes defined by 3GPP, such as *#06# and the call forwarding family, which every phone handles the same way.
  • Carrier codes that your network handles, such as balance checks or voicemail shortcuts.
  • Apple's Field Test code, *3001#12345#*.

What does Field Test mode show?

Dial *3001#12345#* and press Call. Field Test shows technical details about your cellular connection, such as the serving cell and signal measurements. On recent iPhones, signal strength is shown as RSRP in dBm. Values closer to zero are stronger: around -80 dBm is excellent, and below about -110 dBm is weak. It is useful for finding the best spot in your home for signal.

How do I use a code safely?

Open the Phone app, go to the Keypad, type the code and press Call. Codes that change settings, such as call forwarding, take effect immediately, so check what a code does first. Secret Codes never dials anything for you: tap Open in Phone and the code is handed to Apple's dialler already entered, so you decide whether to press Call.
