Frequently asked questions
What is the order of operations?
Brackets first, then powers, then multiplication and division from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right. It is often remembered as BODMAS or PEMDAS.
How does the % button work?
After + or −, it means a percentage of the number before: 200 + 10% is 220. After × or ÷, it means divide by 100: 200 × 10% is 20. Alone, 50% is 0.5.
Can I use my keyboard?
Yes. Type digits, + - * / ( ) and %, press Enter for the answer and Esc to clear.
Why does 0.1 + 0.2 show 0.3 here?
Computers store decimals in binary, which gives 0.30000000000000004 inside. This calculator rounds that noise away in what it shows.
What is the difference between C and ⌫?
C clears the whole calculation, while ⌫ deletes the last character.
Why can I not divide by zero?
Division by zero has no defined answer, so the calculator shows a message rather than a wrong number.
Does it save my calculations?
Only while the page is open. The history disappears when you close or reload it, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Do I need a scientific calculator instead?
Use the scientific calculator for sine, cosine, logarithms, powers and factorials. This one is laid out for everyday arithmetic.
How do I work out a percentage of a number?
Type the number, then × and the percentage: 200 × 15% gives 30. For percentage change and other forms, use the percentage calculator.
Can I calculate a sale price with this?
Yes: 80 − 25% gives 60. For double discounts and tax in one place, use the discount calculator.
