Image resizer
Change an image's width and height in pixels or by percentage, keeping its proportions.
Quick answer
Choose an image, enter the width or height in pixels, and the other value follows if Keep proportions is on. Or press 25%, 50%, 75% or 200% for a quick change. Choose the format and press Resize. Making an image smaller keeps it sharp, while enlarging cannot add detail and may look soft. It all runs on your device.
How to use it
- Choose an image. The current size is shown.
- Set the new size. Enter pixels, or press a percentage button.
- Resize and download. Choose a format if needed and save it.
Example
Reducing a large photo for a website, with proportions kept:
Input
photo.jpg: 4000 × 3000
Width: 1200Output
photo-1200x900.jpg: 1200 × 900Common errors and how to fix them
The image looks stretched- Turn on "Keep proportions" and enter only the width or the height.
The enlarged image is blurry- Enlarging cannot add detail. Start from a larger original if you can.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize without losing quality?
Scale down and keep the proportions. Shrinking looks sharp. Enlarging stretches the pixels and cannot add detail.
What does "Keep proportions" do?
It keeps the width-to-height ratio, so the picture does not look stretched. Turn it off only when you need an exact size and accept some distortion.
What is the difference between resizing and compressing?
Resizing changes the number of pixels. Compressing keeps them and reduces the file size. Doing both gives the smallest file.
What size for Instagram or a website?
For Instagram, 1080 pixels wide is standard. For a website, a full-width image is typically 1600 to 2000 pixels wide, and a content image about 800 to 1200.
What size should a passport photo be?
Rules vary by country and application, so check the official requirement for exact pixels and file size, then enter those here.
Can I resize to a target file size?
Resizing changes the size indirectly. Use the image compressor afterwards to reach a limit such as 100 KB.
Will it keep transparency?
Yes for PNG and WebP. JPG has no transparency, so a white background is added.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is resized in your browser and stays on your device.
How do I resize without stretching to a new shape?
Crop to the shape first with the image cropper, then resize. Changing the shape directly stretches the picture.
How do I reach a small file size after resizing?
Run the result through the image compressor, and lower the quality until it fits your limit.
