Background remover
Remove the background from a logo, product shot or portrait, and download a transparent PNG.
Quick answer
Choose an image, then a method. Plain colour removes a solid background connected to the edges, which suits logos and product shots: it works instantly and offline, with a tolerance slider. AI finds people in photos: a small model (about 13 MB) downloads once and runs on your device. Either way, your image is not uploaded, and you download a transparent PNG.
How to use it
- Choose an image. Plain backgrounds give the cleanest results.
- Choose a method. Plain colour for logos and products, AI for portraits.
- Fine-tune and download. Adjust the tolerance, choose a background and save it.
Example
A black logo on a white background, in Plain colour mode:
Input
logo.jpg: black logo, white background
Tolerance: 18Output
logo-no-background.png
The white surround is transparent. The logo, and enclosed white areas, are kept.Common errors and how to fix them
Part of my subject disappeared- The tolerance is too high, or the colours are too close to the background. Lower the tolerance.
A halo remains around the subject- Raise the tolerance a little, or click the background in the small picture to set its colour.
The AI model could not be downloaded- Check your connection. Plain colour mode works offline.
Frequently asked questions
Which method should I use?
Use Plain colour when the background is one colour, like a white studio shot or a logo. Use AI for a person against a busy background.
Does the AI work for products or pets?
It is trained on portraits, so people work best. For objects, photograph them on a plain background and use Plain colour.
Is my photo uploaded for the AI?
No. Only the model and its runtime are downloaded, from public file hosts, to your browser. The processing happens on your device, and your photo is not sent anywhere.
What does tolerance do?
It sets how close a colour must be to the background to be removed. Raise it if a halo remains, and lower it if parts of your subject disappear.
Why did white areas inside my logo stay?
Plain colour removes only background connected to the image edges, which protects the same colour inside the subject. Enclosed areas, such as the inside of an O, stay.
Which file format should I save?
PNG, which keeps the transparency. JPG has none, so saving as JPG uses the white or black background you pick.
Why are there rough edges?
Shadows and soft edges blend with the background. Try another tolerance, and start with a larger, sharper image.
Is there a limit on images?
No sign-ups, credits or watermarks. Very large images are limited only by your device memory.
How do I put a new colour behind the cut-out?
Choose white or black under "New background", or find an exact colour code in an image with the image colour picker.
How do I get a clean edge on a small logo?
Start from the largest version you have and adjust the tolerance. Afterwards, tidy the frame with the image cropper.
