Word to PDF converter
Convert a Word document to PDF in your browser, without uploading it or installing anything.
Keeps headings, bold and italic text, lists, simple tables and images. Exact fonts, columns, headers and footers may differ from Word.
Quick answer
Choose a .docx file, pick A4 or US Letter, and press Convert. Headings, bold and italic text, lists, simple tables and images carry over, and the text stays selectable. Fonts and exact layout may differ from Word, so check long or heavily designed documents. Documents in scripts such as Urdu, Arabic or Chinese are saved through your browser's print dialog to keep the text correct.
How to use it
- Choose a .docx file. For an older .doc file, save it as .docx first.
- Pick a page size. A4 for most of the world, US Letter for North America.
- Convert and download. Press Convert, then save your PDF.
Example
A simple document with a heading, a list and a table:
Input
letter.docx
Page size: A4Output
letter.pdf
Headings, bold text, lists and the table are kept, with selectable text.Common errors and how to fix them
This is the older .doc format- Open it in Word or Google Docs, save it as .docx, and try again.
The file could not be read- It may be damaged or password protected. Open it in Word to check, and remove any password.
The layout differs from Word- Columns, text boxes and exact fonts are not reproduced. Use Word's own "Save as PDF" for an exact copy.
Frequently asked questions
Will my PDF look exactly like Word?
Not exactly. The content and structure carry over, but the PDF uses a standard font and its own layout. If an exact copy matters, use "Save as PDF" in Word.
Can I convert a .doc file?
Not directly, as this older format cannot be read in the browser. Open it in Word or Google Docs, save it as .docx and try again.
Why does it ask me to use the print dialog?
PDF's built-in fonts cover only Western European languages. For Urdu, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese and others, your browser's fonts render the text correctly, and you choose "Save as PDF" as the destination.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The file is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device, so it is safe for private documents.
Are headers, footers and page numbers kept?
No. Only the main document content is converted. Use Word's own export if you need those.
Are images kept?
PNG and JPG images are kept and scaled to fit the page. Other formats, such as EMF drawings, may be left out, and the tool tells you when that happens.
Is the text in the PDF selectable?
Yes, you can select and search it, as text is written as real text rather than an image.
Can I convert a password-protected Word file?
No. Remove the password in Word first, then convert it.
Why convert a Word document to PDF?
A PDF looks the same on every device and is harder to change by accident, which suits CVs, contracts and forms. Add a password with Protect PDF if it is private.
Can I combine several Word files into one PDF?
Convert each one here, then combine the results with Merge PDF.
